- — Introduction text
Takers are rather small Mist Monsters, with the appearance of a ghost with thin legs and arms, a skull like head with glowing yellow eyes, visible ribs and a humped back.
Encountered[]
Takers are first introduced in Stonewood SSD 5 and can be encountered beginning in high Stonewood.
They are found:
- Patrolling or sleeping
- During objective defense
- Spawned from Husk Encampments
- Spawned from Shadow Orbs
- In Dungeons starting PL 43+ zones
- In the Crypts Dungeon, as the final boss (Vlad)
- Spawned by the Storm King
Behavior[]
Takers do not attack mission objectives directly, but instead focus on players. They deal heavy melee damage and they can sneak up to unsuspecting players thanks to their ability to fly and create portals used to phase through structures. Takers also have access to a devastating dive attack, able to almost one shot players in very high Power Level missions.
Abilities[]
- Takers have to ability to fly, which makes them harder to hit and allows them to reach players in places other husks can't reach.
- Takers can create a portal which allows them to enter confined spaces.
- Takers have access to a dive attack: they stop in place, send out a screech start charging towards a player in a straight line. If the hit lands, it deals extremly high damage.
Types[]
- Taker.
- Vampiric Taker: A variant of Takers that are gray in color with red eyes. They appear in Survive the Night during the Hexsylvania Venture Season. They drain the player's health to heal themselves when they attack, and are weakened during the day.
- The Crypts Dungeon features a Vampiric Taker named Vlad as its final Boss.
Strategy Guide[]

This section outlines a strategy. | |
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic. |
- When a Taker is about to charge someone, it floats in the air long enough for a concentrated burst of fire from heroes. Take advantage of the brief moment that it is stationary since it is much faster when on the move and is particularly hard to target. However, if you're the target of its charge, it's very easy to target it since it's moving in a straight line... towards you!
- Avoid confined spaces. Even when Takers are not charging, their melee attacks are deadly.
- When a taker is charging towards you, you can dodge its attack by running in the opposite direction and strafing to the left or the right.
- You can also use movement abilities such as phase shift or double jump to dodge its dive.
Trivia[]
- Many heroes have their own nicknames for Takers that can be heard while aiming at them. Examples include; Jonesy refering to them as "dive bombers", while Ken calls them as "soul suckers", and Thunder Thora calls them "flying husks".
- The nickname "Soul Sucker" is likely in reference to a cut Taker attack that involved sucking the player character's life from their body. Leaving them dead on the ground unable to be revived as a result.
