The Grotto was a Named Location in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was added in Update v12.00. It was located just northeast of Retail Row and south of Dirty Docks.
Overview[]
The Grotto was an SHADOW underground facility that could have been accessed through two holes in the ground. SHADOW Henchmen and Brutus patrolled the area, along with security equipment, such as Sentry Cameras and Sentry Turrets were set up all throughout the main base to protect the vault. Ziplines provided quick travel around the base.
History[]
Chapter 2: Season 2[]
- Update v12.00: Added The Grotto.
- Update v12.10: Brutus has joined SHADOW, causing many changes to the location to occur. A large skull shape has been created onto the side cliff of The Grotto. Multiple Shadow logos have appeared inside and the Henchmen have become SHADOW Henchmen.
- Update v12.20: A Choppa been added to The Grotto.
Chapter 2: Season 3[]
- Update v13.00: The Grotto has completely flooded and is completely inaccessible. The location is now a Landmark and has been renamed to Brutus' Basin.
Chapter 3: Season 1[]
- Update v19.00: The remains of the POI become completely inaccessible following the map flipping.
Chapter 2 Remix[]
- Update v32.00: The Grotto's remains have returned alongside the Apollo island, though it's entrances are covered by debris.
- November 7th 2024: The Grotto has been transformed into Spaghetti Grotto and is owned by Snoop's Enterprise. Spaghetti Grotto contains the Eminem Boss.

Trivia[]
- In Chapter 2: Season 4, there were leaked audio files for Bat sounds and water lever files, codenamed "GrottoRuins". There was a new collaboration between DC and Fortnite, and the main character is Batman, which explains the leaked Bat Audio files. This hinted that The Grotto may return, but ultimately led to nothing.
- Similarly, in Chapter 2: Season 8, the water level in Brutus' Basin lowered slightly, which may indicate a future reappearance, but nothing happened to it and as a result it got removed in Chapter 3: Season 1 due to the island's flipping, though in that season Covert Cavern was added which resembles The Grotto, and is seen as a sucessor to The Grotto.
