- — In-Game Description
The Kneecapper is a Melee Weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale, that was added in Chapter 6: Season 2.
Functionality[]
The Kneecapper has two different ways of dealing damage:
- Attack: Pressing the fire button performs a single swing. Holding the fire button executes a combo of 4 attacks, dealing 30, 35, 20 (x2), and 55 damage, for a total of 160. The final attack in this combo knocks players back approximately 10 meters. Using this attack while airborne triggers a combo of 2 attacks, dealing the same damage as the first 2 attacks of the main combo but with slightly different animations. Each successful hit on a player, vehicle, or structure reduces the durability meter by 1 point (0.5%).
- Charged Smash: Holding the aim button begins a charging process, up to a maximum of 2 charges. Releasing the button performs a swing that deals increased damage and knocks players farther away based on the stored charge, as indicated by the charge meter around the reticle and the electricity effects surrounding the bat. Swinging without charging deals 60 damage and launches enemies approximately 25 meters away. A single charge increases these values to 75 damage and around 35 meters, while a fully charged swing boosts them to 90 damage and roughly 45 meters. Each successful hit on a player, vehicle, or structure reduces the durability meter by 4 points (2%) with no charges, 7 points (3.5%) with 1 charge, and 10 points (5%) with 2 charges.
The Kneecapper also has a Passive mobility ability that increases the player's speed and reduces stamina depletion while sprinting with the item equipped. Additionally, jumping while sprinting performs a higher jump that negates fall damage. While active, this ability reduces the durability meter by 1.5 points per second (0.75%/s).
Once the durability meter reaches 0%, the item breaks and is removed from the player's inventory.

Strategy Guide[]

This section outlines a strategy. | |
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic. |
General Usage[]
- The Kneecapper’s various perks while sprinting—such as fall damage negation and increased jump height—can greatly aid you with traversing the map, dodging enemy fire, and gaining the high ground in a fight.
- Remember to jump; fall damage immunity won’t be applied if you don’t take a leap before taking a long drop.
- Alternate between sprinting and sliding to conserve your stamina. This is especially useful when escaping fights and exiting the Storm.
- Be sure to compare the durability of your Kneecapper to another one dropped by an opponent, as to not leave one with higher durability behind.
Attacking[]
- Use The Kneecapper’s Charged Smash on an opponent while at a high location or near the Storm. This will likely eliminate them from fall damage or greatly reduce their health, and you can finish them off with an Assault Weapon.
- You can sprint while charging the Smash, but you will be very vulnerable while doing so. Try strafing as you approach your opponent to dodge their attacks.
- There is a brief delay after using a Charged Smash which increases depending on how long you charged it—even if you miss it—so aim well.
- During a close quarters fight, use a Kneecapper-enhanced sprint jump, change to your shotgun, and shoot your opponent as you descend.
- Don’t use The Kneecapper’s attacks against Guards, Bosses, or players that you confidently know are Bots. If you’re fighting a real opponent, advance upon them after ensuring that they have less than 50 Shield, which can be done with a ranged weapon.
- In a tough pinch, the right thing to do is to retreat by sprinting and jumping with the Kneecapper. The standard attack combo will not end a fight in your favor if you are at a low health disadvantage.
Counters[]
- An opponent repeatedly hitting you with The Kneecapper’s basic attack will likely eliminate you, unless you have at least 100 Health and 50 Shield—or 50 Overshield. Make sure you have as much HP as possible at all times, and always carry healing items.
- The range of The Kneecapper’s basic attack is short enough for you to eliminate an opponent that is repetitively using it, which can be done with a well placed shot of a shotgun followed by a fast-firing weapon.
- To avoid an opponent charging a Charged Smash, quickly sprint away from them. Use a ranged weapon from a distance, or build walls to protect yourself; you are incredibly likely to get hit if they sprint while preparing the attack.
- If your opponent has less HP than you, shoot them with a ranged weapon. Keep shooting whether they retreat or keep moving, and if you miss too many shots, make some distance from them and reload.
- Shockwave Grenades are one of the best counters against and substitutes for The Kneecapper. Use them to greatly distance yourself from an opponent wielding a one, then regain your bearings as you heal yourself and reload once you hit the ground.
- Stock up on them if you are unable to find a Kneecapper, preferably from a hired Supply Specialist. You can also find them as floor loot or uncommonly from Chests.
- The Outlaw Shotgun or Twinfire Auto Shotgun are the best weapons to use against The Kneecapper. Their wide spread, high damage per shot, and decent fire rate can overwhelm an uncoordinated opponent using The Kneecapper.
- The Rocket Drill, Rocket Ram, and Ice Slide attack of Sub-Zero's Kombat Kit can rescue you from the fall damage of a Charged Smash. However, their brief pullout time can prevent you from using them, so swap as quickly as possible.
