- — Rift Warden Stellan
The Shapeless Man is a malevolent entity wishing to achieve a goal of founding a world of perfect order he has imagined, seemingly similar to Geno. However Stellan's descriptions of him show that he is impatient and evil, he swallowed stars and turned Stellan's dreams into dark nightmares, he also threatened to destroy the Island if the Rift Gate failed.
History[]
Pre-Chapter 4[]
Centuries ago, The Shapeless Man found young Rift Warden Stellan and took him as his own. At some point, he ordered Stellan to join the Oathbound and create a Rift Gate. Then he stopped to manifest himself.
Chapter 4: Season 1[]

The Shapeless Man reappeared in Stellan's dreams after he came into contact with the refined Kinetic Ore, the final piece Stellan needed to construct a Rift Gate. The Shapeless Man yearned for the Rift Gate and threatened to destroy everyone if the gate failed. After the Rift Gate exploded and cracked the sky, The Shapeless Man believed he had achieved his goal and left Stellan's dreams, seemingly satisfied with the outcome.
Possible identity[]
The identity of the Shapeless Man is a mystery that has still not been resolved, indeed after the various mentions made by Stellan during Chapter 4: Season 1 and the apparent success of his plan, he apparently didn't reappeared the rest of the chapter, leaving the mystery as to his identity unresolved. However, during chapter 4, several clues were given and several suspects could be established.
- The Nothing: The Shapeless Man's evil and impatient personality and his 'shapeless nature' are reminiscent of The Nothing, and Stellan's various descriptions of stars swallowed in darkness implies that as well.
- Geno: Despite the personality which differs from that of Geno, the objective of the Shapeless Man and the words used "he always imagined a world of perfect order" imply that The Shapeless Man is Geno himself, or one of his snapshots. The description Stellan made about the Shapeless Man's burning gaze, also fit how Geno looked like during Collision when seen from The Zero Point.
- Rift Warden Stellan: Despite his innocent appearance, Stellan also seems prone to being The Shapeless Man for several reasons. The Shapeless Man seems able to monitor everything Stellan does, and only speaks to him in his dreams. Stellan tell The Looper that when he was a child he had neither name nor family. According to Princess Lexa, the exiled sages were wary of Stellan and additionally, Slone implied Stellan was not human and that she knew "what" he was during a discussion with the latter. However Stellan does not seem to be aware of this according to Slone. The Shapeless Man could therefore be an alternate personality of Stellan and not a separate entity.
- Triarch Nox: the former Triarch of Night is also a suspect. The Shapeless Man's planned to create a working Rift Gate, but the fact that it failed and was sabotaged by the Peace Syndicate to bring MEGA City to the Island suited the Shapeless Man, who showed that he never intended for Rift Gate to succeed. Triarch Nox being one of the instigators of the Syndicates conflict which pushed the Peace Syndicate to bring MEGA City to the Island therefore becomes a suspect. Stellan's descriptions of stars swallowed in darkness also match Triarch Nox's description, where it says that where he walks, darkness falls.
- Kado Thorne: the time-traveling vampire is the final suspect of Asteria. Indeed, he travels through space and time using rifts, which he uses mainly to recharge the chronocells to power his time machine. The success or failure of the Rift Gate therefore remains to his advantage. His very long longevity and his psionic powers could have allowed him to manipulate Stellan, more particularly his dreams for centuries and his time travels would allow him to know certain things in advance, notably the goal of The Ageless to create a Rift Gate, in order to place Stellan at on his side and increase his chances of achieving this.
Trivia[]
- His personality is similar to The Nothing but his ideal "world of perfect order" is similar to Geno.
- His true goal with the Rift Gate remains unknown, he was satisfied despite it failing while he previously threatened Stellan to destroy the Island if it failed.
