Hey Commanders! With 31.30 we are flipping on some behind-the-scenes UI switches that may introduce a few bugs but will allow us to be more in parallel with other modes in Fortnite. We want to let you know why we’re making these updates and what you might encounter while we’re improving.

By implementing these changes, we’re able to continue work to make the Emote Wheel more familiar and functional, add new menu options to the Lobby screens, and later down the line we plan to include Jam Track support and more to Save The World!

We’re aware this change may cause a few bugs, and we aim to tackle these as quickly as possible. Here are a few known issues we’re aware of:

  • Some UI screens on consoles do not navigate correctly.
  • Backpack resets the selected item category after closing.
  • Emote Wheel functionality may be degraded and impact camera movement.
  • Storm King's health bar does not appear in the final phase.

We appreciate everyone’s enthusiastic feedback around these changes, and support with highlighting issues while we work through these new features. As always, if you spot any related issues that we’re not tracking, drop them in the comments below.

Thanks for helping make Save The World awesome!

Workarounds, begone — the new First Person Camera Mode device enables you to create polished first-person experiences rendered from the player character’s viewpoint! Use it to make islands in popular genres like first-person, team-based or tactical shooter games, or add new levels of immersion into horror and cinematic adventure games.

Experimental Features PSA[]

The First Person Camera Mode device is now available as an Experimental release, so you can try it out. You’ll be able to publish your islands when the feature enters Beta later this year.

Features are made available in an Experimental state so you can try them out, provide feedback, and see what we’re planning. Please keep in mind that we do not guarantee backward compatibility for assets created at the Experimental stage. Also, the APIs for Experimental features are subject to change and we may remove Experimental features (or specific functionality of them) at our discretion.

Because First Person Camera Mode is an Experimental feature, the device currently comes with a few limitations including:

  • All ranged weapons (except dual-wield weapons like Dual Pistols) and the Ballistic Shield are usable in first-person but not all weapons currently have custom reload animations in first-person.
    • When dual-wielding weapons, the camera will automatically switch to third-person. This will remain the case in the Beta release.
  • Not all player actions are available in first-person. In some situations such as swimming, gliding, and skydiving, the camera will automatically switch to third-person. This will remain the case in the Beta release.
  • Some actions may cause the player's hands or weapon to be hidden.
  • Shadows are missing, and in some situations you may notice rendering imperfections like clipping.

Please remember that all content created using First Person Camera Mode device should follow the Fortnite Island Creator rules and align with Fortnite's age rating.

We will continue to polish the first-person implementation as we work towards the Beta release. We rely on user feedback to finesse and improve new tools — please give your thoughts and report any critical issues to the team.
