Upgrade Benches are an object found within Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were first introduced in Chapter 2: Season 1 and are found all over the Apollo and Artemis islands.

Functionality

An Upgrade Bench can be found in key locations across the Island. The benches have a white glow around the top of them, to highlight their existence and make it easier for players to locate them.

Going up to an upgrade bench allows a player to upgrade a weapon, increasing the rarity and buffing the statistics of held weaponry. Upgrading costs materials (Chapter 2: Season 1 to Chapter 2: Season 4, as well as Chapter 2 Remix) or bars (Chapter 2: Season 5 to Chapter 4: Season 4). Not every weapon supports upgrading.

  • Frenzy Farm, inside the southern red shack.
  • Steamy Stacks, in the storage area of blue building number 4.
  • The Yacht, next to the vault.
  • Dirty Docks, inside the northern brick warehouse.
  • Spaghetti Grotto, under the bridge to the heli pad.
  • Retail Row, inside the brick building next to the water tower.
  • Lazy Lake, inside A Lot O' Auto building, in the garage.
  • Misty Meadows, inside the red cafe building.
  • Slurpy Swamp, inside the turbine station.
  • Weeping Woods, inside the small garage.
  • The Rig, inside the north-eastern stile, next to a Phone Booth.
  • Holly Hedges, outside the garden centre, near cash registers.
  • Salty Springs, inside the blue house, on the first floor.
  • Sweaty Sands, inside the club, in a side room near the parking area.

History

Chapter 2: Season 1

• Update v11.00: Added the Upgrade Bench. It is static, and can be found across the island. Weapons are upgraded using materials in increasing increments. Upgrade Benches cannot be destroyed.

Chapter 2: Season 3

• Update v13.00: Added the Upgrade Bench as an item. It can now be picked up and thrown to place a new bench. Existing benches can be destroyed and made into an item.

Chapter 2: Season 4

• Update v14.00: Vaulted Upgrade Bench as an item. Existing benches can no longer be destroyed.

Chapter 2: Season 5

• Update v15.00: Vaulted Upgrade Benches. Items are now upgraded by interacting with characters.

Chapter 2: Season 7

• Update v17.00: Unvaulted Upgrade Benches. Upgrading weapons has been reworked: it now costs Bars to operate (previously materials) and is also instant. Sidegrading can no longer be performed. Upgrade Benches are also destructible, but do not drop as an item when destroyed.

Chapter 4: Season OG

• Update v27.00: Vaulted Upgrade Benches. Items can no longer be upgraded.

Chapter 2 Remix

• Update v32.00: Unvaulted Upgrade Benches, which once again require materials to upgrade weapons. Players cannot sidegrade weapons with them.
