This article is about the wildlife in Save the World. For the Battle Royale version, see Wildlife. |
Wildlife are NPCs in Fortnite: Save the World that were first introduced in Update v19.40.
Since Update v22.30, Wolves and Boars can be ridden, making them function as Vehicles.
Since Update v26.20, Crows are no longer the only Wildlife that can carry loot. In addition to the loot Crows; loot Chickens, Frogs, Boars, Wolves, and Raptors can also appear.
Function[]
Wildlife can be found roaming across a zone during a misison. They can potentially attack or flee from the player when they get close. Hostile Wildlife can be tamed and be used to kill Monsters, helping the player and their team. Players can only have one tamed Wild Animal at a time. Taming a new one will eliminate the previous one. Wildlife can not be elemental.
Wildlife appears in every mission except Storm Shield defenses, Dungeons, Frostnite and when fighting the Storm King.
Select Wildlife can be tamed using Meat, or by jumping on top of them, which will tame them and cause them to become friendly.
Players can ride certain Wildlife, which enables them to control the animal as if they were a vehicle. Riding an Animal allows the player to move in any direction, jump and sprint. Animals have a stamina bar which stops them moving if depleted. This bar must be refilled with Meat. Riding on an animal allows the player to use Weapons and Consumables, but doesn't allow the use of Gadgets or Abilities, and building whilst riding.
Unlike untamed Wildlife, when a tamed Animal's health bar reaches zero, it will be knocked down instead of instantly being eliminated. Players can revive them. If a Player gets knocked down and chooses to Respawn instead of using a life to revive themself, their tamed Animal will despawn from the zone.

Strategy Guide[]
This section outlines a strategy. | |
---|---|
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic. |
- Monsters will engage on any Wildlife they see.
- In Eliminate and Collect and Destroy the Encampments missions, this can be a hinderence because by chasing Wildlife, monsters can stay away from players.
- In siege and defence based missions, Wildlife can be a benefit as they may serve as a distraction.
- Taming Wildlife does not take up a Defender slot, so it is possible to have 3 Defenders and 1 tamed Animal to assist in a mission.
- Tamed Wildlife will periodically teleport near the player if stuck or too far away.
- Do not leave a fortification unattended and without traps for too long because wildlife can break builds.
- Knocked Wildlife never disappears, unless the taming player is eliminated, or another animal is tamed.
- Multiple Animal Dens can be found in a mission. Going near one and interacting with the associated objects will cause an Animal to come out and be instantly tamed:
- Wolf Dens have dry skulls.
- Boar Dens have red mushrooms.
- Raptor Dens have eggs.

- The floating health bar is the same as the Wildlife in Battle Royale and not the one for Husk Monsters. As a result their power level is not displayed for Wildlife.
- This is due to Wildlife being introduced in Battle Royale first.
- Wildlife will be affected by the Healing Deathburst Modifier.
- When riding a tamed Animal, you can notice that the font for the Animal's health bar is Burbank, instead of Noto Sans. This is an oversight.
- The Animal health bar shape and colors here also resemble the ones from Battle Royale Chapter 3: Season 2.
- Save the World still uses Chapter 2: Season 1 health bar shapes and colors for players.
